prayers requested for the people of alabama

the bluedots and our immediate family are safe and sound.  while we suffered no losses, there are very many in our state and in the southern states that have lost everything, some even their lives.  my heart is heavy and i am sadden beyond words.

dear blog world, please pray for us, the people of alabama.

it's wednesday and another hodgepodge...

happy wednesday...i am linking up with joyce over at from this side of the pond for wednesday hodgepodge.

1. What are your plans for Easter Day/weekend? good friday will be spent with bluedotprincess as bluedotteen has school and bluedotdad has work...saturday we will get things ready for sunday....sunday is church followed by lunch with my side of the family at our house....of course we will be hunting eggs after lunch and hopefully will get to visit a bunch!

2. Besides Jesus, what one person from The Bible would you most like to meet and why?  i would love to meet mary, jesus' mother...i just look at her as the mother of our savior and think about how difficult it was to let him go about his business.  i would just love to hear her first person accounts of jesus childhood.

3. What is one modern day convenience you didn't have as a child that was easy to live without? my cell phone...i have forgotten it lately, not on purpose, and i lived, the earth didn't end, no one perished because i couldn't reach them or they couldn't reach me for 15-30 minutes...it was actually nice to not have my phone ring when i was grocery shopping, etc...

4. Are you more right brained or left brained? If you don't know what that means there is an interesting little quiz here.  here is my results:
Thank you for taking the Creativity Test. The results show your brain dominance as being:

Left BrainRight Brain
52%48%

You are more left-brained than right-brained. Your left brain controls the right side of your body. In addition to being known as left-brained, you are also known as a critical thinker who uses logic and sense to collect information. You are able to retain this information through the use of numbers, words, and symbols. You usually only see parts of the "whole" picture, but this is what guides you step-by-step in a logical manner to your conclusion. Concise words, numerical and written formulas and technological systems are often forms of expression for you. Some occupations usually held by a left-brained person include a lab scientist, banker, judge, lawyer, mathematician, librarian, and skating judge.

5. What is something you intended to do today but didn't? Why? so far have finished all my to do's for the day...i know i am boring!

6. Cadbury Creme Eggs or Reeses peanut butter? oh my goodness, how can you ask me to choose?  i like them both, but i suppose my favorite would be the reese's eggs....regular reese cups are not the same!

7. Who was your favorite cartoon character when you were a child? sorry i can't have just one, it was the smurfs...i am beyond excited about the smurf movie...

8. Insert your own random thought here. for all you parents who eat the ears off of those easter bunnies:

happy easter blog friends....i hope you are celebrating christ's resurrection this sunday,

it's wednesday and that means a hodgepodge!

happy wednesday bloggy friends!  today is wednesday hodgepodge over at from this side of the pond with joyce.  i am linking up and here are my answers:

1. Would you rather talk to everyone at a crowded party for a short time or have a significant conversation with two people? it really depends on my mood...there are times that i am a social butterfly and want to talk to everyone at a party or gathering...while at other times i am really in need of a connection with a few certain people to catch up and go deeper than 'how are you', etc...

2. What objects do you remember from your parent's living room?  from growing up i remember a wall mural that was of a fall stream scene in the mountains.  we lived in a log cabin and it was there when we moved it...it stayed for several years and then was wallpapered over close to when i graduated from high school.  the other thing that i remember from my parent's living room is fun times there hanging out with my sister and our friends...lots of great memories in the living room!

3. Do you hog the bed? Steal the covers? Snore? i admit it...i steal the covers!  poor bluedotdad wakes up cold all the time because i have all of the covers!

4. Speaking of Easter dinner....what is your favorite way to cook/eat lamb? Or does just the thought of that make you squeamish? If you're not cooking lamb what will be your entree du jour on Easter Sunday?  we don't eat lamb for easter.  we typically have a ham.  i love easter sunday and the excuse to have a wonderful family dinner at my house.

5. Let's throw some politics into this week's mix-oooohhh...Do you know the whereabouts of your birth certificate and when was the last time you had to produce it to prove you're you? yes, i do and i also know the whereabouts of all of the bluedot birth certificates.  i last needed my birth certificate when we moved back to birmingham from durham, nc to get my driver's license changed.

6. As a child, how did people describe you? that curly haired little girl...still curly headed!

7. What do you complain about the most? right now my complaints are mainly about bluedotteen...complaining about his homework, chores, etc being completed.  i am paying for my raising, as my parents BOTH cursed me to have children just like me.  bluedotteen is just like me.

8. Insert your own random thought here. bluedotprincess quote: 'wouldn't it be cool if we could fly around and our butts would light up like the lightening bugs'  -- i think that would be cool!

y'all have a wonderful wednesday...and if you are so inspired, head on over to from this side of the pond and link up with joyce and wednesday hodgepodge!

listening for god

i am trying to be still and listen to what god says...it is hard.  i have lots of junk in my head, lots of noise, lots of distractions...  i know that i am not alone.  we visited a small group at our church on saturday night and there was a discussion about hearing god.  my husband summed up the night's discussion this way:

'I was meditating this morning on our conversations last night I made a connection.  There appeared to be several threads of conversations taking place.  The first relating to the fact that God is speaking to us all of the time and that we just need to listen to him.  If we could all just take time to be still and listen, we might hear what He is saying to us.  Elise's examples of how God has spoken to her over the past few weeks was quite inspiring.  A second thread concerned parenting and the frustrations many of us are experiencing at the moment allowing our kids to make mistakes.  Several of us said that we continually give our kids advice and that they continually ignore it....anyone getting the connection.  Imagine how frustrated our Father is when we ignore him.  In my current frustrations as the parent of a teen, I have an inkling of an idea.'

as a parent of a teenager i see and understand what is like to be ignored...wow...how many times have i ignored god?  last week i had an instance where i was in the drive thru line at a fast food restaurant, where i had this strong urge to pay for the food of the lady in line behind me...it was a urgent feeling, nagging feeling...i didn't listen to it.  i am ashamed, looking back i feel like god was telling me to do this for this lady and i didn't listen.

i am trying to quiet myself, quiet the noise, spend more time in prayer with god and listen for him and his instructions for me.

many blessings,

Cannot be parted nor be swept away
From one another once you are agreed
That life is only life forevermore
Together wing to wing and oar to oar"

you get what you pay for..

my sweet husband saw a livingsocial deal and bought it for me...it was for a mani/pedi.  i used the coupon last night to get my toes and nails did...

i have to go back and tell you that it was a super deal on the services, $13 for both!  it was at a beauty school.  i thought hey cool they have to learn and i really need a little pampering.  well i got to the school a few minutes before my appointment time.  i had to complete a form and sign a waiver as it was a student doing the work, but was told like 4 or 5 times that a teacher would be supervising the services.  Still thought this is going to be great!

this 22ish girl comes in and takes me back to the nail room.  i don't know her name as she didn't introduce her self to me...i chalked it up to her being a student and just not remembering.  so she asks me to pick out my polish and i do...then she is assembling the items she will need for the pedicure and starts to get the foot tub ready.  they have the nice pedicure chairs so i think this is going to be so nice...i am looking around the room and i notice these posters with numbered reminders of what is a pedicure, spa pedicure, manicure and spa manicure.  my voucher was just for a regular mani/pedi, no spa!

she asks me about the temperature of the water, i explain i want it warm not hot...well i test the water and it is a little too warm but  i think hey i can suck it up...she has poured in the foot soap/soak stuff i have my feet in the water...then she turns on the jets...well she must have missed the day when they went over amounts of each item to use, because i have bubbles up to my knees!  i pull out my right foot and she makes a comment about my tattoo.  she says, 'oh that is cute'... now i have noticed that she has several tattoos and a lip piercing.  she then proceeds to tell me how she regrets everyone of her tattoos and her piercings (yes she told me about the other ones she had that i could not see)...she regretted them because she got them before she was a christian and knows how we aren't supposed to damage our bodies.  but god forgave her since she did it to her body before she became a christian... i am sitting there in shock, so she basically just told me that i was a sinner and destined to hell because of my flower tattoo on my foot....so i told her that i was a christian and that i had just gotten my tattoo 2 years ago and was a christian then too and that i didn't believe that i was going to go to hell for having it!

so each time i pull a foot out of the water i have bubbles to my knees...she finally finishes up the pedicure and we move to do my fingers.  more chitty chatting as she does my nails.  i learn a little too much about her life.  some people just do not have a filter and she didn't.  she finally finishes up my fingers and it is 7:30, my appointment began at 5:30, just for a regular mani/pedi.  now i have to tell you at no time while she has been doing my nails has any teacher came into check on us.  however, several other students have came in to ask my student questions about their worksheets.  i suppose i got a smart student, as she finally proceeds to tell them i have mine finished, just go get it and copy it.

so after she is finished i have to wait for a teacher to come look at my toes and fingers to see if they are ok.  now is the time that i have to describe my nails. there is polish outside of my nail bed, all on the cuticles and actually on my toes.  the teacher tells my student, you did a great job.  my student thanks me and i can leave...2 hours for a mani/pedi that looks like one of my dachshunds gave me, seriously!

i truly appreciate bluedotdad for thinking about me and giving me this me time...it was nice to have a little me time...but i have decided that i won't be letting anyone practice on my hair! (my student tried to get me to make an appointment with her for color for this upcoming week, because she is graduating in may!)

i think am going to let bluedotprincess do my nails this weekend...i will let you know who did a better job!

if i die my family will starve to death and never find anything!

i am in a bit of mourning...my laptop has quit working... you turn it on and nothing happens except the on light stays on...i had a bit of a come apart about the laptop, but it wasn't really about the laptop.  i don't know if other mother's experience this, but in the bluedothouse it belongs to bluedotmom it is everyone's no need to ask, if bluedotmom has the door closed that means nothing, just come on in, if bluedotmom is asleep no matter the time of day or night wake her up for whatever random question needs to be asked especially if it is about an item that does not belong to bluedotmom that has been lost or misplaced, because bluedotmom knows where everything is, if bluedotmom is on the telephone that means scream and yell and act like a bunch of hooligans.. hope that gives you the gist.

i have been feeling rather unappreciated and disrespected.  on saturday morning bluedotdad wakes me up to tell me they are hungry and we don't have anything for breakfast...so i am frustrated that he being a grown man cannot handle breakfast for our family.  i responded by getting out of bed in my pjs, putting on my flip flops, grabbing my cell phone, car keys and wallet and heading to mcdonald's.  bluedotdad calls me about 5 minutes later and says where are you at i was talking to you and i can't find you?  i tell him they were hungry and undoubtedly without me they would all surely starve to death!  then he has the nerve to ask me to go to starbucks to pick him up a coffee! (i am sure i am not the first person to go through a drive thru in their pajama's, please don't judge me...)

on saturday evening, i went to turn on my laptop to check facebook and it wouldn't turn on.  bluedotprincess had been playing on it earlier that morning after bluedotdad had been on bluedotmom's laptop...  bluedotprincess told bluedotdad that mom's computer quit working but no one tried to see what was wrong with it, they just left it out.  i am of the old school that if something does not belong to you you should ask the person it belongs to if you may use that item.

now, fast forward to sunday morning, it was a beautiful day...i helped bluedotprincess get completely ready, hair brushed, shoes on, teeth brushed, after breakfast.  i said to bluedotdad, today i do not want to be walked in on while i am undressing, getting in the bath tub, am showering, getting out of the bathtub, drying off, putting on my makeup, fixing my hair or getting dressed.  now you may wondering why i went into so much detail about all of the steps of my getting ready....you have not lived with my family or  you would know the answer.  if you do not specifically say it then it wasn't expected when it happened.

even after all of the instructions, i am in my closet picking out my clothes, when bluedotdad calls my name from the hallway, i tell him to go away and leave me alone!  he calls my name again and walks into our bedroom, where again i tell him to leave!  he says well i just wanted to tell you i love you and give you a hug...don't say awwww....he is holding 2 different pairs of socks.  he wanted me to decide which pair he should wear.  i told him he was a big boy and could make that decision and to get out!  then he proceeds to send bluedotprincess up to ask me some ridiculous question...

do other houses work the same as ours or do i live with a bunch of crazy people?
